This is normally a boring month, so I decided to get into the “Internet Business”.  Everyone thought they could become Internet millionaires overnight – I didn’t – I thought it might take a week!!!!  No – I knew it would not be that easy. 

My sojourn into the Internet is a consequence of our alarm web site www.afid.co.uk not being the raging success that it should have been.  I decided it needed a search system dedicated to smaller local businesses that would give them the exposure they needed.  As a result the idea for “near2u” was born.  Unfortunately like all good ideas, everyone had thought of something similar.  However, I still believe that there is a gap in the market that I intend to fill.   

Trust my luck, some Yank had beaten me to near2u.com so I had to settle for near2u.net and near2u.co.uk.  This suits me since my initial target is Yorkshire & Lincolnshire followed by each adjoining county in turn.  I am using the old military adage concentrate and defeat!  I did some test marketing around this time.  This showed that the time was not right.  Not enough people were using the Internet as it should be used.  Since then things have moved on, so I shall launch the site in Yorkshire in February 2001.
